Mid-Year Reflections: Weathering the Storms as a Senior Father

Mid-Year Reflections

Today is the final day of June 2026. Looking back, this month has brought an overwhelming wave of difficult challenges for my family.

At the beginning of the month, my daughter was hospitalized in Da Nang due to a severe digestive disorder, forcing me to take an emergency flight out to care for her. Soon after, my son faced a major setback when he failed his entrance exam into a specialized high school. To top it all off, my wife was laid off from her job at the end of the month. Facing so many major disruptions at once has forced me to think deeply and take immediate, decisive action to steady the ship and support my family.

Among these actions, I recently discovered that my son is showing mild signs of insulin resistance due to being overweight and sedentary. As a result, I have stepped in directly to enforce a healthier diet and push him to exercise alongside me every single day.

Through all of this, I remain completely committed to my own fitness and weight-loss goals. I am currently waiting for my medical follow-up during the third week of July, with strong hopes for an excellent health report.

As a "senior father", I have come to understand that life is rarely a smooth road. These challenges, heavy as they feel right now, are only temporary and short-term hurdles. The reality is that our family has faced equally dark and difficult seasons before, and we have always found a way to fight through and emerge stronger.

The storm will pass. Keep fighting.
