Northern Flavors: Memories of Summer Meals
Although I was born in the South, my roots belong to the North. Deep down, my thoughts are always connected to the villages, the people, and the traditional flavors of Northern Vietnam.
I spent several childhood summers experiencing the intense heat of the North. My favorite memory from those blazing days is the lunch my grandmother used to cook for me. Her meals were beautifully designed to balance nutrition and, most importantly, to cool down the body in the middle of a sweltering summer day.
The attached image from "Reply199x" shows a classic example of a traditional Northern Vietnamese family meal. Looking at it brings back the exact feeling of those peaceful afternoons—a simple, refreshing reminder of home and family that stays with me no matter how much time passes.
