The Ego Trap: Resume-Driven Development and False Security

Talented engineers often treat complex problems as playgrounds to prove their technical prowess and satisfy personal ego, rather than designing simple, maintainable systems for the next generation—classic Resume-Driven Development.

At the same time, some managers deliberately build internal "black boxes" to guard their political standing within an organization, hiding behind the excuse of "Security by Obscurity."

This mindset is fundamentally flawed. It contradicts the core principle of modern cryptography: a system must remain secure even if its entire source code is public, so long as the key is kept safe.

The inevitable result is turning their own team into an organizational bottleneck, creating dangerous single points of failure instead of building resilient systems.
